Our school

Part of this year's English curriculum involved students in a project on the
European Community, its members and its organization. In particular they
have studied in detail the Educational Systems of some UE member states,
comparing them with the Italian system which has recently been reformed.

Thanks to the "European Schoolnet" (an international partnership of European
Ministries of Education), we were able to contact schools of the UE and get
in touch with a German High School. The use of the I.C.T. has made a very
useful contribution to this new method of teaching / learning. This
experience has given the students the opportunity to use e-mail for
communication and the exchange of information. Furthermore, the computer has
permitted the use of a broad range of materials, from the application of
up-to-date software to its organization so as to illustrate the results of
the students' work.

For the realization of this project the students worked in groups and thanks
to peer tutoring and cooperative learning they have succeeded not only in
sharing ideas but also in improving their English skills. In fact, working
as a team has highlighted not only the importance of individual contribution
but also of the cooperation required to carry out the task and come up with
results. Moreover, students have become directly involved with the
information, knowledge and ideas that they themselves have been using.

To carry on a project about the European Educational Systems has favoured
the exchange of information about national and local school experiences.
Besides, the analysis of problems common to most of the Educational Systems
has helped the students, who are developing the European dimension of
Education, take a necessary step to increasing their interest in the European
citizenship, cultural diversity and European collaboration.
